Our gorgeous, gifted, and gracious Beverly Ann was born into the earthly realm May 29, 1958 to Selester James Worthy and Jessie Mae Williams in Jacksonville, Florida. The youngest of four girls, Beverly, had a natural curiosity for learning new things. At an early age, she learned to read, write, and quickly became very well known in Magnolia Garden neighborhood for her sharp wit and highly outspoken character. She was very active in many activities until her illness began at the age of 8. Despite the seemingly immediate and untimely swelling of her legs at such a young age, Beverly stayed determined to not allow her condition to define her quality of life. In 1967, after the passing of their mother, the family relocated to Akron, Ohio. Beverly attended Lane Elementary School, Thornton Junior High, and graduated from South High School in Akron, Ohio where she ranked in the top 10% of her graduating class. She also received offers to attend several well acclaimed colleges for full academia scholarships for technology and business studies including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). However, her sincere love for her family kept her close to home, so she attended classes at the University of Akron and Hammel Actual College where she earned her first associates degree in Accounting. It was shortly after that time, that Beverly began attending services at the Stone Deliverance in Akron, Ohio, where she accepted her calling as Sunday School teacher for young children ages 4-10 as well as singing in the church choir. Her love for the Lord, her public proclamation that Jesus was her Rock and her deep faith was inspiring to many.
Beverly had a warrior spirit. She believed in working hard and not allowing life situations to become setbacks. Beverly found her career calling in the field of medical billing, and coding, which at that time was an emerging new field. She was employed by top named companies such as Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Florida, Crystal Clinic, Children’s Medical Center of Akron, Summa Health System, and Convergys. In 2011, she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Technology with Northwestern College, earning honors with induction into the Alpha Gamma Kappa Honor Society. Her attention to detail and strong work ethic to see things done correctly, became her career platform which blended with her love for all people, even defending those who were wronged or harmed. She had no problem telling like it is, even if it meant that she helped someone else.
In June of 1990, she and her longtime friend, the love of her life, Mr. Jazzmetrice “Jazz” Averett, began a strong courtship which blossomed into their divinely strong marriage of 25+years. Although they had no children, The Lord blessed Beverly with many nieces and nephews who affectionately called her “Aunt Bev”. Her devotion to her family was significant throughout her life. She consistently sowed seeds of love into her family by knitting blankets, booties, harts, scarves, and even gloves for her many family and friends. Beverly also was an avid collector of all things Mickey Mouse, anything electronic, a “mean” designer purse collection and her special gift of making jewelry.
Aunt Bev’s fiery yet gentle personality and spirit of excellence will be greatly missed by all. Preceded in death by both of her parents, her oldest sister-Rosemary Billie McCormick, and her dear friend Mama Lee, she leaves to mourn her loving husband Jazz of Akron, Ohio, two cherished sisters Brenda Worthy and Marilyn Worthy, both of Akron, Ohio, her very beloved sister in law, Kim Averett, her beautiful Mother in Law, Mrs. Janice Averett all of Akron, best friend-Deneen Pollard –Stubbs of Cleveland, Ohio and an entire host of more than 15 nieces, more than 10 nephews, many cousins, precious relatives and dear friends.
