Beverly Ann Danzy October 14, 1954 – November 2, 2025
Beverly (Smith) Danzy, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and faithful servant of the Lord, entered eternity on November 2, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Beverly was born on October 14, 1954, to Marvin (Jimmy) and Ethel (Jeanette Gooden) Smith in Akron, Ohio. She attended Akron Public Schools. Beverly graduated from John R. Buchtel High School in 1973. She was a proud “1040” class member. In high school Beverly was given the nickname, “Cool Bev” because of her fashionable clothes, her friendly ways and always remaining cool under pressure. Beverly was kind and loving. All of her classmates wanted to hang with Cool Bev.
She married Terry Danzy on July 12, 1980. The Danzy’s celebrated 45 years of marriage this past July! To this union three sons were born, Terry Jr, Terrell, Treymaine and daughter, Jaslyn Smith.
Beverly’s career started in the retail industry, but she soon found her true passion was working with families in crisis. Beverly accepted a position with the Summit Children’s Services Board and the rest was history. Beverly’s ability to minister to families in crisis was remarkable! She was committed and determined to help every family she met. Beverly did not stop problem solving and finding safe, suitable placement until all resources were exhausted. Beverly’s impeccable work ethic was recognized by the organization. She received the “Outstanding Social Worker Award” and was a four-time recipient of the “Social Worker of the Year Award”. Beverly treated everyone she worked with as family. Her natural family was constantly expanding each time Beverly brought someone to holiday gatherings, church, vacations, and weekend getaways. After 40 years of helping families in need, Beverly retired in 2011.
After retiring, Beverly’s continued to minister and serve. She volunteered with the Buchtel PTA and scholarship committees, Lawton Street Community Center, Sarah’s House and Class of 1973 Reunion Alumni committee. Beverly was an avid sports fan. She spent many hours working the city-wide AAU sporting events, high school football and basketball games and supported the summer youth programs.
Beverly’s passions were shopping, shopping and more shopping!!! She never visited an outlet, or shopping mall that did not have a pair of shoes, a dress or purse calling her name.
Beverly’s summertime was spent vacationing with The Griggs or Williams on the beach, at various basketball tournaments, or at an amusement park. Some of her favorite destinations were Ocean City, Maryland, Charlotte, North Carolina, Atlanta, Georgia and Orlando, Florida, and Washington D.C. The Danzy’s traveled in a Scooby Doo van affectionately called the “Green Machine” to every drivable destination.
Beverly’s dedication to her family was immeasurable! She helped and gave to everyone. Beverly loved with an everlasting love, especially for her grandchildren, Noah, Kaleb, Gianna and nephew Evan Brown.
Beverly was a faithful member of The First Apostolic Faith Church, also known as The Faith Place. Beverly served as a Greeter and worked with the Family Life Group Ministry. Beverly was diligent making phone calls, sending cards, visiting the sick, and ministering to those in need.
Beverly’s favorite song, “I’m Not Tired Yet” was demonstrated throughout her life. Beverly did not stop working, serving or giving until her health declined and prevented her from doing the things she dearly loved.
