Billie Barnes was born on September 28, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the first born of 6 sons to the late, Frank and Almetta Barnes. Billie graduated from East Tech High School, home of the Scarabs.
He served in the United States Army with an Honorable Discharge in 1953. On July 3, 1953, Billie married the love of his life Lillie Dexter. They were blessed with 2 beautiful daughters, Patricia and Annette, and a precious son, William.
Billie worked very hard for the United States Postal Service as a Mail Clerk for over 40 years on the third shift. He wanted nothing but the best for his family so being strong-willed he took on a part time job with in-town delivery service and later, Sherwin Williams.
Billie joined Liberty Hill Baptist Church and was a Boy Scout Leader under Mr. Hightower. Years later, Billie and Lillie joined The Word Church and were baptized together.
Over the years, Billie enjoyed doing carpentry work, maintaining his yard and always willing to help his family with their projects as well as other people. Billie could build anything and fix anything.
Billie had an outgoing personality and was loved by everyone he met. He had a huge sense of humor and was the greatest jokester.
After retiring from the Postal Service, Billie and Lillie enjoyed Casino trips to various states while enjoying each other’s company. As well as spending time with their Grand/Great children They were members of The Bedford Heights 60 plus club.
Despite the ravages of Alzheimer’s, Billie still had a loving spirit and was known to be the strongest 91-year-old patient with a few knockout punches and a head lock under his belt. Billie always knew when Lillie was in his presence and would give her a kiss when she came and left his side every day. Their 69-year bond remained strong and still does.
Billie fought with all his might until the morning of October 5, 2022, when the Lord called him home. Billie will be truly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Almetta Barnes; his parents-in-law who truly loved him and he loved them back, Burlee and Eula Dexter; brothers, Marvin (Betty), Ronald (Sharon), and Melvin; and brother-in-law, Lewis Dexter.
Billie is survived by his devoted wife, Lillie; daughter, Patricia (James) Smith; daughter, Annette Anderson; son, William (Ledell) Barnes; his brothers, Alfred (Jackie), and Franklin (Charmaine); sister-in law, Belinda; and brother-in-law, James (Evelyn) Dexter; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren with another great-grandchild expected in November of 2022; as well as host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
