Betty Katherine Bostic
August 27, 1946-January 13, 2022
Betty Bostic was born Betty Harris in Tutwiler, Mississippi on August 27, 1946. Her mother,
Mozella Hoskins, moved her family north when Betty was nine years old to Fort Wayne, Indiana
after Emmitt Till was killed in 1955. Betty died peacefully on January 13, 2022 in Cleveland,
Ohio.
Betty went to Harmar School in Fort Wayne and then went on to graduate from Central High
School in 1964 where she was a member of the Homecoming Court and the Concert Choir and
Varsity Choirs. She was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church where her uncle
Reverend James W. Bledsoe was the pastor for 43 years, her aunt Fannie Bledsoe was the first
lady and her mother, Mozella, was a musician and choir director. Betty was a musician herself
and was active in the Church’s choir, at one point serving as its president during the tenure of St.
John’s current minister, Pastor Frederick Alexander Sleet. She was thoughtful and kindhearted
and supported members of the choir and the greater Fort Wayne community with visitations,
donations and nurturance during times of loss and grief.
Betty retired as a Senior Processor on the Agent Change Team for Lincoln Life Insurance after
working for the company for 32 years. During her tenure at Lincoln Life, Betty trained and
mentored new employees and colleagues and contributed to the strength of her team and the
company itself. In her last years, Betty lived in Cleveland, Ohio and gained many additional
friends and supporters who have grown to love and admire her for her beauty, kindness and
joyful spirit.
As a mother, grandmother, sister and aunt she remained steadfast in her love and support for her
loved ones. The beauty of her spirit continues to live on in all of her family members and
descendants. She is survived by her daughterJoy R. Bostic of Cleveland, Ohio, her two sons
Adrian M. Bostic of Morrisville, North Carolina and Arian (Kristen) R. Bostic of Indianapolis,
Indiana; one brother Clifford (Brenda) Harris, and four sisters Joyce (Elijah) Davis, Beverly
(Roosevelt) Cobb and Dwilette Hoskins all of Fort Wayne, Indiana along with five grandchildren Kaylen McKinney, Ashlen Walker Quarles, Miles Bostic, Aubrey Bostic and Alivia
Bostic and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friendsfrom around the country. She was
