On January 24, 1987, Brandon Johnson, affectionately known as “BJ,” was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Rufus Johnson and Angela Odom. He completed his education by earning a General Educational Development (GED) at Maple Heights High School.
Brandon was well-loved for his great sense of humor and playful personality; his warm smile could light up anyone’s day. He was known for his strong work ethic and held various jobs, including working as a truck driver, which took him on adventures across the country. He was also a proud father of two wonderful boys: Jordan, and Braylon. Brandon loved his sons deeply, and they shared many of his charming traits.
A passionate cook, Brandon loved trying new recipes, especially on the grill. One of his unique creations was BBQ spaghetti, a dish that surprised many! Family meant everything to Brandon, and he treasured the moments he spent with them. Even when he faced health challenges, the love and support from friends and family brought him much comfort; if they couldn’t visit him, they would consistently check in with his mother.
Brandon had a deep passion for music and enjoyed making his own songs. During his time in the hospital, he discovered a love for different music styles, especially Jazz and Blues, as well as calming tunes that helped him relax. Known for his stylish appearance, Brandon always dressed neatly and put together his outfits with care.
He found comfort at Phoenix of Maple Heights, where the dedicated staff, including caring aides and nurses, ensured he was as comfortable as possible. The facility’s administrator, Michelle, developed a special friendship with Brandon and made sure he was well taken care of, even arranging regular haircuts for him.
Sadly, he passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
BJ is survived by his father, Rufus (Anqunetta), mother Angela (Ray), children – Jordan (mother Gabrielle) and Braylon (mother Shakena), brother, Matthew, sisters, Kaila, Jessica, Leah; and many loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
