Brian Smith, affectionately known as “Pud” by family and friends and “Governor” by his church family, was born on November 15, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Bessie and Willie Smith.
He attended East Technical High School and went on to study at Parma Community College. Brian proudly served in both the U.S. Army and the Marines, receiving an honorable discharge for his service.
A lover of music and always the life of the party, Brian brought joy wherever he went. He was a dedicated Cleveland sports fan and a proud member and instructor of the NRA. Known for his warm spirit, Brian never met a stranger and deeply loved his family.
Brian accepted Christ and was a devoted member of Mega Church under the leadership of Bishop Blackwell, Pastor Lois Blackwell, and Pastors Louie and Alana Hendon. He faithfully served in the church’s transportation ministry for many years.
Brian and Patricia met as teenagers at East Technical High School and shared a loving partnership that spanned over 40 years. Together, they were blessed with three children: De’Shawn Laster, Evelyn Smith, and Sharda Smith.
On April 29, 2025, Brian was called home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Bessie Smith, and his brothers Calvin, Lorenzo, and Michael Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Patricia; his children, De’Shawn, Evelyn, and Sharda; his grandchildren, Cjarmaine, Enrique, De’Shawn Jr., and Zhoie; his brothers, Willie, Maurice, James, and Lee; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
