Callie Toliver was born on December 17, 1932, in Hannon, Alabama. She was one of eight children, born to the late Henry and Mary Jones. Callie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at the age of 14. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in special education from Cleveland State University. She retired from the Cleveland Board of Education after 30 years of service.
Callie was a founding member of First Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the Motherboard, Missionary Board, Pastor Aide Committee, and Overseer of Christian Education. She supported many other auxiliaries in the church and in the community until her health declined. She was a faithful servant that loved the Lord. Her hobbies consisted of cooking, gardening, and she loved teaching. In honor of her, she has a library in Ghana West, Africa. Most of all she loved her family.
Callie Toliver was preceded in death by two children, daughter Ora Jean, and son Raymond Tolliver, and by eight siblings, Henry Jones, Sallie Harris, Leola Tinsley, Rosa Caldwell, Robert Jones, Raleigh Jones, Mary Williams, and Clara Sparks.
She departed this life on December 18, 2023, at 3:57 p.m. at her home, surrounded by her family. She leaves to mourn her passing five children: Geraldine Bussey (Raymond) of Tampa, Florida, Linda Tolliver of Maple Heights, Ohio, Shirley Hollingsworth (Charles, Jr.) of Cleveland, Ohio, Anthony Tolliver (Marnita) of Bedford Heights, Ohio, and Sandra Williams (Darnell) of Garfield Heights, Ohio, 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Special acknowledgement to her grandson, Brandon Kyle.
