Carol Barnes Atchison entered this world on February 4, 1940, in Akron, Ohio., to the late, Lamar Barnes Sr. and Algerre Barnes (Casper). She was the fourth child of six children.
She went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, after a brief illness. She was a highly intelligent, innovative, and elegant lady. She could repair anything from plumbing to computers. She was an artist and her artistry showed up in the style of her attire to the beauty of her home. Every home she owned was exquisite. Every out of town guest wanted to stay at her house. She offered her heart and home no matter the personal inconvenience. Her family made her smile and a little inconvenience did not keep her from opening her welcoming arms.
Carol wrote in her high school yearbook, her earliest ambition was to attend business college; however, her giving heart motivated her to pursue an LPN career. This career would land her at the Brecksville VA Hospital for a few decades. Her pursuits were not limited to the Healthcare industry. She also loved to travel. She and her husband traveled all over the world. This sophisticated lady enjoyed choir, participated in the AARP club, and was a member of Eastern Star as well as NARFE Chapter 168. Her hobbies exercised her intellect: crossword puzzles, word searchers, and reading. She also enjoyed long walks in Sand Run Park. Her generosity did not end with her family. Carol was a long-time member of Wesley Temple AME Zion Church with her husband and the Atchison Family. For a few years, she carried her senior church member to Wesley Temple rain, sleet or shine. Her welcoming heart shines once again.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Lamar Barnes Sr. and Algerre Barnes; husband, Alfred D. Atchison; daughter, Deborah Lyn Barnes; brothers, Lamar Barnes II and Richard Barnes; sisters, Patricia Adams, Yvonne Haynes, Frances Fleming, and Annie Fleming.
She is survived by her sister, Corinne Sanders; nieces/caregivers, Valinda L. Sanders and Deirdre Haynes Thompson; Godson, DeVaughn Carl Thompson Jr; sister-in-law, Norma Davis Atchison and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
