Born Oct 4,1924 in Laurel, MS. Her family moved to Mobile, AL, which she proudly claimed as home, when she was 3 years old. She completed her early education in Mobile and graduated from Central High School. She went on to graduate from the Emily Bonds Beauty School with a license in cosmetology. Catherine accepted Christ at an early age. Her mother, Alma McCann-Harris was a home maker and seamstress who imparted great cooking skills and the value of keeping a nice appearance.
She opened her own Beauty salon before the age of 21. She met and married the love of her life, Johnson Jones in 1946. To this union 2 children were born. The couple moved to Cleveland, OH seeking better employment opportunities. They opened J&S groceries on Central Ave. Catherine went on to become an employee of the Shaker School System where she was a cashier in the cafeteria, cook, and teacher’s aide. She retired in 1985. Notably, she also worked part time for many years at Weldon Tool Company until she also retired there. She was an excellent cook and loved to spread love to those sick/shut in by visiting and making/sending plates. She was known for her delectable dishes, such as peach cobbler, gumbo, greens, and sweet potato pie. She also loved to make and deliver floral arrangements. Family was the center of her life, and she frequently went back to Mobile to visit. She was afforded to the opportunity to travel abroad, some of her favorite places were Jerusalem, Rome, and other European countries. She was a truly loving and caring person who lived a vibrant life. She United with St. Timothy Missionary Baptist Church in the 1950’s and assisted in the kitchen and with fund raisers. She enjoyed membership in the Alabama Club until her health declined.
Catherine was proceeded in death by her mother, Alma McCann Harris and younger brother, Edward Dial, and many other close family members. Catherine leaves to cherish her memory; A son, Alvin Jones (Gwen); a daughter Darletha Jones; Grandsons Robert Jones (Traci), Ernest Jones (Macon, GA); granddaughters Jasma Barnes (David); Deidra (Dee Dee) Jones; Great Granddaughter, Josephine Scates; Great Grandsons, Tori (TJ) Jones, Devin Jones (Macon, GA); Great-Great Grandson Tori Jr. Jones; and Devoted Cousin Arlean Pleasant (Chicago, IL) and a host of other family and friends.
