Charles E. Johnson, better known as, Copley Slim was born August 21, 1950 to the late Ruth Johnson Boyd and Simmie Roberson Sr. in Bessemer, Alabama. He departed this life on November 25, 2023, after a battle with liver cancer. He loved spending time with family. At family dinners, he would jokingly go around the room asking “You got my money?” He loved telling jokes to his nieces and nephews. If someone was dressed up or looked nice, he would compliment them in his own way by saying “You ugly, but you looking good”. That was Charles, a jokester.
When not with his family, Charles would often be found on the westside of Akron, at Hawkins Plaza, Circle K or Marathon gas stations pan handling, with his famous saying, “GOT ANY CHANGE” or trying to bum a ride home.
Charles attended Buchtel and South High schools. Charles was an example of Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go; And when he is old, he will not depart from it”. While Charles may not have gotten everything in life right, he kept God in his spirit and heart. He was kind, loving, and had a gentle spirit.
He was preceded in death by mother Ruth L. Boyd, father Simmie Roberson Sr., Step-father Leonard Boyd Sr., sister Danise Divers, and brother Simmie Roberson Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Khadijah Braziel (Ritchie), grandchildren Kenyah and Khaymen Harris. Siblings: Phyllis Johnson, Adolphus “Cookie” Johnson, Vanessa Johnson (Jeff Bray), Ezekiel Boyd Sr. (Melissa), Michael Boyd Sr. (Carla), Cereatha Boyd, Filandus Boyd Sr. (Belinda), Catherine Frazier (Walter) , Gloria Miller, Shirley Hudson, Anita Bryant, Valerie Watkins (Reginald), Vincent Roberson, brother-in-law Henry Divers, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
