Charles Edward Hannah, 90, born July 18, 1934, to Jessie and Edward Hannah, in Lillybrook, West Virginia. He passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, just one week shy of his 91st, birthday. He received his education in the West Virginia school system and graduated from Stanford High School. After moving to Cleveland, Ohio, he attended Fenn College, now known as Cleveland State University.
On April 8, 1986, Chuck married his devoted wife, Barbara Hannah, with whom he shared decades of love and partnership. Charles lived a long meaningful life marked by kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to his family. He loved working with people and dedicated much of his life to serving his community through various careers. He worked for his Uncle Jack at the dry cleaning service, construction company for the City of Cleveland, and as a driver for the City of Cleveland, Hough Norwood Clinics, and Superior Electronics. He retired as a driver from the Regional Transit Authority (RTA), Paratransit Division, where he was known for his professionalism and friendly demeanor. He never met a stranger . He can be quoted as saying: “For Every Problem, There Is A Solution!”. He was also an avid sports Fan, especially a dedicated Cleveland Sports Fan.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, two loving daughters, Charlene Barnes (Damon), and Rita Hannah; siblings Betty Payton-Taylor, Gwendolyn Lewis, Gaynell Taylor, and Valerie Marshall; Brothers-in-law, Dr. Phil Mack (Evella) and Tony Neal; Sister-in law Dr. Joyce Neal. Eight cherished granchildren: Michael Hoston (Rhonda), Angelia Shelton (Dale), Damita Graham (Amon), Damon Barnes III (Natalie), Tiffany Hannah, Charles Barnes, Sr. (Shaniya), Christopher Hannah (Tiara), and Chaz Barnes;
many beloved great-grandchildren, Michael “Tony” Hoston (Avionna), Asia, Emmauel (Nelly),Brianna (Nate),Nandi, Charvon,Vincent (Tyllissa), Symone,Tyron, Tyrell, Tiarra, Kourntey, Kae’la, DaQwan, Jayla, Julian, Journee (Arianna), Charles Jr., Isaiah, and Kaleb. Great-great grandchildren; Christian, My’lani, Ava, AJ, Naomi, Vinee’,Viniyah, Tyvon, Dominic, and Annalise. And a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Chuck was preceded in death by his daughter, Paulette Shelton, Stepson, Vincent Brown, siblings; Blanford Hannah, Paul Hannah, Dawn Alice Williams, Ramona Harvey, Faye Robinson, Angela Hannah, and his ex-wife, and mother of his three daughters, Gaynell Hannah, who passed away in November 2024.
Chuck will be remembered for the love he poured into his family, the values he instilled in his children, and the calm, steady guidance he offered to all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, Charles “Chuck” Edward Hannah leaves a legacy of love, strength, and quiet dignity that will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him.
