On a bright and beautiful sunny day on May 13, in Bellville, Texas—a handsome baby boy was born to the proud parents, Elijah and Callie Rigsby. He filled their hearts with so much joy.
Charles was so smart and energetic; he truly was a Blessing to them. He had a mind beyond his years. He grew into a marvelous teenager. He loved learning; he was a “teacher’s dream”. He attended Blackshear High School in Odessa, Texas. As a teen, he got into sports… basketball and football. He loved to play golf and he was good at it. After graduating, he went to Tarrant County Community College. Charles’ friends called him “Chuck” and his mother and grandmother called him “Sweet Pea”.
As a young adult, he joined the Air Force in 1953 and while serving, he was a man of many talents and goals. He owned his own Janitorial Busineses, was a Cartoon Artist, and he was a Comedian—he could make you laugh so hard until your sides ached and tears started streaming down your face. He also did magic tricks—he could make a coin appear in a hat without you seeing or knowing how it got here.
He met this wonderful lady named Mary… in that union, they had two boys and two girls— Charles Jr., Darren, Tonya, and Iris.
Charles Rigsby was brilliant at playing dominoes; he had a reputation of being the best. He could tell you what you had in your hand without seeing it.
His brother, Elijah became became ill in Jasper, Texas and Charles went there and took care of him until he died and he never complained. Charles was definitely a caring and loving brother. While there, Charles Rigsby joined Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church. He was the Treasurer as well as a Deacon. He received a Certificate of Ordination.
In 1960, Charles (Chuck) met this gorgeous woman with a gleaming smile; her name was Ruby. Later in life, they met again. It was their destiny. They married in 2020. Need I say more?
They have one daughter together and her name is Charlotte. Their marriage was filled with loved an joy. Our Heavenly Father had His hands all over the union.
On the evening of March 9, 2025, the Lord called him on home. I can imagine Him saying… “son, it is time; you fought a good fight; you will have no more pain and sorrow”. I can also imagine him saying… “Well done my faithful servant”.
Charles Jerome Rigsby will be missed, however, loved ones and friends can keep his precious memories that was created during his life’s journey closed to their hearts, knowing that he is now in a better place.
Charles was preceded in death by his Father: Elijah Rigsby, his mother Callie Rigsby and Grandmother; his son, Charles Jr.; brothers Elijah, Clarence and Earl; sisters Pearl, Essie, Hortense, and Gertrude. He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his wife, Ruby Rigsby of Maples Heights, OH; his son, Daren Rigsby (Sherry) of Fort Worth, TX.; his daughters Charlotte of Cleveland, OH., Tonya of Chicago, IL., and Iris of Arlington, TX.; Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
