Charles “Len” Leonard Washington was born in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Peter Willard and Christine (Perdue) Washington on November 13,
1941. Leonard graduated from East Technical High Schoo in 1961. He began a tenured and dedicated career of 37 years as a millwright
at Alcoa in 1962, where he was employed until 1999. During that time, he successfully received his esteemed millwright apprenticeship certification. In 1963,
Leonard answered the call of duty to proudly serve his country in the United States Army. He served as a military police officer in Germany from December
of 1963 through December of 1965. In 1994 he began his employment with the Ford Motor Company where he retired from in 2008.
Leonard and Vondel Carpenter were joined in holy matrimony on May 28th of 1974 and through their union he became the proud father of their beloved son, Charles Leonard
Washington Jr. on May 13th of 1976. Leonard and Vondel shared 33 loving years together before her untimely passing in March of 2008. In addition to being a loving father and
husband, Leonard was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan and especially passionate
about golf both playing and as a spectator. He was a loyal member of the UAW union and enjoyed meeting with other active retirees to reminisce on the first Wednesday of every month.
Leonard was called to be with the Lord on December 3rd, 2024, at the age of 83 in Solon, Ohio. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his lovely
wife, Vondel, and his two brothers, Kenneth and Bruce. Those left behind to cherish his precious memories are his son, Charles Jr. (Teresa);
brothers and sisters, Peter (Rebecca), Judith Waites, Dale, and Gregory; beloved nieces and nephews, Kelli, Danielle, Peter III, Kenneth Jr., KaRon,
Courtney, Cordale, Brian, Gregory, Christine, Raina, Mina; and many great-nieces and nephews. Also included as family would be his dear friends,
neighbors and former co-workers who all held a special place in his life.
