Charles Reginald Motley, Jr., 33 years young, was born on December 7, 1992, in Cleveland, Ohio, His life was cut short on April 11, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him deeply and will carry his memory forever.
Charles—affectionately known as “Chaz”—was a devoted son and step-son, grandson, caring brother, proud uncle, cherished nephew, cousin, stepfather, friend, mentor, and community member. He brought warmth, humor, and strength into the lives of those who knew him. His presence lit up any room, and his smile and candor are something family and friends will never forget.
Chaz was baptized at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Cleveland, Ohio, where he began his spiritual journey. He attended Archbishop James P. Lyke and Margaret Ireland Schools, with a brief experience at Maryville High School in Buffalo, NY before earning his High School Diploma from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.
Chaz was a hardworking and dependable man at Seaway Foods, a place he worked early in his career. He was recognized for his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and dependability. Chaz was a devoted mail carrier at the United States Postal Service for six years, in addition to serving as an on-the-job instructor. He enjoyed working as a Premises Technician for both AT&T and Spectrum. Chaz aspired to become a Technological Engineer. We were always able to call on him with electronics setup and troubleshooting inquiries.
In his free time, Chaz loved playing video games where many knew him by his gamer tag, “ChazDaSniper.” He enjoyed watching anime, K-pot meals, and purchasing elite colognes. He was a genuine, down-to-earth, free-spirited, and laid-back member of the community. Whether sharing stories, laughing together, or simply being present, he made those around him feel valued and appreciated.
Chaz was known as a charmer. He displayed affection, protection and unconditional love to everyone. He always made sure to tell his loved ones he loved them, and he never left without a hug and a kiss—a simple but powerful reflection of the space he carried in his heart for those closest to him. These connections meant everything to Chaz, and he valued each moment spent with everyone.
Chaz is survived by his loving mother and father; Angela Ruffin and Charles Motley, Sr., stepmother (Suzanne); grandparents, Judy Collins, Charles Willis Motley; his siblings, Christian Ruffin, Oliver H. Richmond III (Candice C. Hardin), India Richmond, Nicole Richmond, Carrica Richmond (Willie Belton, IV), Paris Motley, Kathrine Motley (Stephen), William Motley; his stepdaughter Khemiya; three nieces, Nakiya, Janyece, Tallyah; six nephews, Armon, Zion, Anthony, Nicholas, Jirah, Naveen; one great nephew, Monteze; he had many aunts he relied on, uncles he called upon, cousins and close friends he connected with often.
Chaz was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Kelly and Helen Ruffin as well as his uncle, Kelly Ruffin Jr.
