On April 13, 1963, God the Father blessed the union of Reverend Luke “Rudy” York and Pearlie Mae Keller with a strong, healthy girl. They named her Chere Ann York, and in time she would grow to become one of God’s most faithful servants. Known affectionately to the world simply as “Chere,” she carried her parents’ love and faith with her throughout her life, and everyone who crossed her path came to know her by her contagious laugh and radiant smile.

Chere was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, attending school within the Cuyahoga school system. She graduated from John Adams High School and later furthered her education at Tri-C Community College, sharpening the skills that would carry her into a long and meaningful career. Chere went on to work for the State for several years, eventually rising to serve as a State Administrator, known for her diligence, integrity, and steady leadership, and for the warmth and grace she brought into every room she entered.

Chere grew up in the church and accepted Christ at an early age, laying a foundation of faith that guided her for the rest of her life. She was a proud member of the Girls Assembly of the State of Ohio No. 41, which helped shape her lifelong commitment to sisterhood and service. In July 1987, she met Raymond Wilson, and the two shared a love that only grew deeper with each passing year.

Chere was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunty, daughter, grandmother, and friend. With her husband Raymond together, they were blessed with three children: daughter Cherae Wilson and sons Franklin Walton and Raymond Wilson Jr. She took great joy in her role as grandmother to granddaughter Rayne Wilson and grandsons Isaiah Wilson and Franklin Walton Jr.

On August 9, 2026 Chere was called home to be with her Lord and Savior. Chere was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Luke “Rudy” York and Pearlie Mae Keller. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her husband, Raymond Wilson Sr.; daughter, Cherae Wilson; sons, Franklin Walton (Shiantee) and Raymond Wilson Jr (Lashanda); granddaughter, Rayne Wilson; grandsons, Isaiah Wilson and Franklin Walton Jr.; sisters, Sandra Averett, Maxine Shavers, and Donna Eatmon; brothers, David York and Gary York; niece Ashlee Bates (Tyrone) and a host of extended family, and friends who loved her dearly.

Chere’s legacy is one of faith, education, service, and unwavering devotion to God and family. From a healthy baby girl born in the spring of 1963 to a woman whose laughter and love touched everyone she met, her legacy will not be forgotten.
