Missionary Cheryle Ann née Moore Chambers, was born on November 15th, 1953 to Frances and Robert Moore Jr in Cleveland, Ohio. She grew up in the Glenville area of Cleveland and graduated from John Adams High School in 1971. She attended Whiting Business College. Her temporary agency work led to her working an assignment with the Cleveland City Council where she was offered a full staff position. After years of working with Cleveland City Council, she was offered a position with the Cleveland Municipal Clerk of Courts Office human resources from where she would retire in 2013. She enjoyed working with employees and making an impact on their lives.
She was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost at the age of 12 years old during a revival conducted by Elder E. C. Taylor. She spent her youth enjoying Jesus and developing lifelong friendships as her and her family fellowshipped with Jonas Temple COGIC, Community Temple COGIC and many more. She became a licensed missionary in the Church of God in Christ and continued to minister in sickness and in health until the Lord called her home. She served in various capacities within the Church of God in Christ as a youth leader, YPWW chair lady, purity leader and choir director to name a few. Though her health and a fall in July of 2023 forced her to reside in a skilled nursing facility until her passing, she continued to be active in ministry. She was active with the Kentucky and Jonas Temple COGIC prayer lines, and continued to minister to any person she met in need; she was a “second mom” to many. She was also an excellent cook and would not hesitate to provide a meal to anyone who needed.
Cheryle was well known for her singing – she ministered in song as a soloist at weddings, funerals, and church services. She sang and recorded with renowned choirs such as the Cleveland Inter-Faith Choir and the Northeast Ohio Mass Choir. One of the accomplishments she was most proud of was being a featured soloist with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra during one of the Martin Luther King Junior Celebrations.
She recently added published author to her list of accomplishments with the release of her book “Surviving the Falls in Life”.
She married Leroy Chambers in June of 1977. Though they would ultimately go their separate ways a few years later, to the union were born two daughters who were the lights of her life: Alicia Chambers-Thomas (Eld. Otis) and Dr. Andrea Chambers-Chrisp (Eld. Courtney). She was also blessed with five amazing and talented grandchildren, Otis Jr, Mason, Amaya, Arryn, and Makenna. Her memory will also be cherished by her sister Judith Moore, her surviving uncle Fred Moore and a host of adopted children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
