Mother Christine Roberta Harvey answered the call from her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to come home from her earthly work to her place of rest on December 3, 2022. She was born on February 22, 1938 in Hurtsboro, Alabama to the late Roy Harvey and Willie Mae Berry, and accepted Christ in her life in 1966, when she joined Holy Trinity COGIC, now known as The Light Church. She worked tirelessly performing her duties as President of Hospitality, and was a well-respected member of the mother’s board, and communion committee member until her health began to fail. She was a faithful member and mother, while serving for 56 years.
She graduated from Central High School in 1956 and went on to further her education at The University of Akron. Christine then began a career at Ohio Bell, now AT&T, and made history as one of the first African American females in the state of Ohio to become a Telephone Communication Installer, retiring in 1990.
In her younger years, she loved activities such as skating, bowling and was an avid reader, but her love for cooking, making everything from scratch, kept many wondering what high quality chef made the food they were tasting. She was an exceptional seamstress, making clothes for numerous dance groups in the area. Being a seek-and-search puzzle lover was another one of her happy places that gave her joy. When it came to dressing and traveling, these were one of her biggest loves. She loved her hats, and her wardrobe stood extraordinary from her head to her feet.
She was a doting mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, never giving up no matter what trials came her way. As the matriarch of her family, she was continually asking God to show her His way. Making others happy was a goal that she kept. Her hugs were infectious, but her true joy came through serving Jesus Christ her Lord.
Mother Harvey was preceded in death by her mother and father, Willie Mae Berry and Roy Harvey; brother, Johnny Berry; sister, Hattie Mae Stephens; beloved grandson, Bradley Harvey; nephew, Michael Stephens, and niece, Dionne Burwell.
She leaves to cherish her legacy and memory her adored daughter, Miss Garnett Harvey; precious grandson, Brandon Harvey; siblings, Lurene Lindsay, Mattie Mack, Brenda Burwell, Charlie Berry and Alphonso Berry; devoted cousin, William McCloude; dear friends, Ruth Anne Johnson, Brenda Wilson, Connie Wise, Thelma Butts and Linda Rodgers, as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and church family.
“I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith, I have finished my course, now there is a crown of righteousness laid up for me which the Lord will Judge, he will award to me on that day, and not just me but to all that have longed for his appearing.”
