Christopher Lee Johnstone, Sr., affectionately known as “Chris,” was born September 6th, 1972, in Garfield Heights, Ohio to Michael G. Johnstone and Janet Nickoless. Christopher had the pleasure of living in Akron, Ohio and Hollas, New York in his early childhood years. He loved spending time with cousins, family, and siblings, it was his ultimate pastime as a child.
At the tender age of 15, Christopher joined his father, Michael, where he attended Shaker Heights High School. During this time, Christopher quickly learned and had a natural taking of being an entrepreneur, even at an early age. He quickly secured his GED and started his Collegiate Career at the University of Akron. Christopher went on to become a master roofer for over 25 years. He watched many sunrises and sunsets watching the beauty of this world. He would talk and teach the craft of roofing to all he knew.
Christopher met LaToya Hellar, instantly friends, in which this relationship blossomed into a marriage. Even though the marriage ended, friends at heart is where each resided.
Christopher devoted his life to the Lord in which he was Baptized March 2016 at Restoration Community Church.
Anyone who knew Chris, knew just how big his heart truly was. His family meant everything to him. Christopher created the “Johnstone 7,” his vision of love that he had for his siblings. However, nothing meant more to him than his children. Christopher was a proud father, and everyone knew it. From the birth of his son, Christopher Jr., to the last birth of his daughter, Ja’Cyla; all of his children were the talking tunes of his mind, body, spirit, and heart. All of his children are the best and most familiar parts and pieces of him, all of them are now his imprints; a true reflection of him.
Chris had a smile that could take over a room. His smile was just as big and bright as the sun; but nothing could beat his laugh, it was even bigger. He never missed an opportunity to hug those around him and to let anyone know, “I LOVE YOU, I MISS YOU.” If he could give anyone the world, he would honestly try. All he ever wanted was to see those around him happy and loved, that was Chris.
Christopher loved to dress, cook, and he was truly a perfectionist at best. He was blind as a bat, and always forgetting his glasses, until his mom would yell, “Chris where’s your glasses, put them on, you can’t see boy,” all his siblings would laugh, all while helping to find his glasses. Christopher was very creative and had a natural talent of drawing. Christopher could draw anything he envisioned or moments right in front of him; and guess what, he had his glasses on. His drawings were pristine, clear as if it had come from a printing press, he was that gifted in his ability to draw.
Christopher L. Johnstone will surely be missed by all his family, friends, and anyone who knew him and those that he touched. We want all to remember Chris as we knew him, cherish the moments, let his name live on forever.
