Clara Duncan, age 99, passed away on August 17, 2023.
Clara Duncan was born in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Dewey and Currean Person on March 2, 1924. The third born of nine children, two brothers Rufus and Dewey Jr., three sisters, Lily, Gertrude and Catherine, all preceded her in death.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Pastor E. Moore of Canaan Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. Clara was a life-long member of Canaan Baptist Church, which made her the oldest living member. As a youth she served on the Usher Board and was the Sunday School Secretary. Always willing to support any ministry she could. Just as her mother before her Clara raised her daughters to love and revere the God of the Bible.
Clara was a product of the Cleveland Public School System graduating from John Adams High School. After having a couple jobs, she settled in at General Electric where she retired after 40 plus years of service.
Clara met and married Floyd Duncan on July 23, 1949 they celebrated 72 years of marriage to this union two beautiful and devoted daughters were born Cynthia & Marcia Duncan. Her loving Floyd passed away May 24, 2022.
Her many hobbies included quilting and sewing. She shared the love of football with “Dunc”, they were Cleveland Browns fans and season ticket holders from 1965 thru 1995. Sunday football included Uncle Opher, Auntie Cat and Uncle Cookie and Little O (once he was old enough) to cheer on their Cleveland Browns at the Stadium in the “cold” weather off the shores of Lake Erie!
Once, she heard her great-grandson was playing football her prayer was for him to play professionally.
Clara loved her family, and her family loved her! Her most outstanding quality was not only her loved for family but her thoughtfulness that was constantly being shown and shared.
