Clara Lucille Gilchrist was born on June 2, 1940, to the late Martin Gilchrist and Frances Gilchrist (Brown) in Fayette, Mississippi. She was affectionately called, “Baby Lucy” by family.
Clara graduated from Liddell High School, and moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1959. She worked at The Buckeye Ribbon & Carbon Company, producing office and business supplies until 1979, then pursued a longtime career in Private Duty Nursing before retiring.
Clara was an avid reader of the Bible and great novels. She enjoyed a variety of sports, as a loyal fan of Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Golf. She was an unbeatable card player. Her kitchen was always the heart of her home. Known as a wonderful and great cook, she loved to share her passion for cooking with family and friends.
A fighter to the very end, Clara faced her final days with the same strength and love that defined her life. She passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026.
Clara is preceded in death by both parents, Martin and Frances Gilchrist; Brothers: Charles Gilchrist and Martin Gilchrist; Sisters: Florida Anderson, Cubie Smith, Pearl Smith, Margie Bell Gilchrist, and Ruby Draper.
She leaves to cherish her memory Daughter, Cynthia Gilchrist; Sisters Runnae Dawson and Ophelia Brown; Grandson, LeShueone Gilchrist (Tiphaney); Great Grandchildren, LeShueone, Jr., and Zhoie; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
