My deepest and sincerest condolences to Sis Ruth and the Merriweather family. Pastor Merriweather was such a kind person and had a smile that would brighten up any room. I was so elated when he became the Pastor of Zion Hill after my father's passing. I will never forget how present and thoughtful he was during that time. He will surely be missed. Sending prayers and love.

If my memory serves me correctly. When I was somewhere between the ages of 8-10. I vaguely remember going to the store witch cousin Clay and cousin Junior. Although I can’t recall how the trip came about. I can recall a lesson that cousin Clay wanted to teach me that day. We were standing in the checkout line as we waited to pay with the cashier. Cousin Clay looks at my ear and goes “Why do you have your ears pierced?” My response was “I like how it looks” and he says “You know having your ears pierced is a symbol of slavery?”. My response was silence. Now as a kid all I could think was “Did he just call me a slave?”. Sad to say only now I can see the intent of that conversation that day. It was my ignorance that bound me to lack of comprehension. What I’ve now learned from that moment is to be aware of what I do with my identity and that Lack of knowledge can leave you lost. While learning can lead you to be a profound individual.

To Aunt Ruthie and cousins, sending condolences on this passing. Always will remember Clay, for his outgoing and energetic personality. Even from a distance, this is hard to dealt with.
