Clifford H. Pettis, age 78, of Cleveland, Ohio, peacefully transitioned from this life, leaving behind a legacy rooted in strength, service, and family. Born on August 26, 1947, in Cleveland, Clifford was the beloved son of Burnes and Virginia Pettis and the fourth of ten children in a close-knit and spirited family.
Raised on the east side of Cleveland, Clifford grew up surrounded by siblings, where he learned early the values of resilience, loyalty, and looking out for one another. He attended Cleveland Public Schools, building lifelong connections and developing the quiet determination that would guide him throughout his life.
Answering a call greater than himself, Clifford enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served during the Vietnam War, completing two tours of duty. His service was marked by courage and sacrifice, something he carried with humility and quiet strength.
Outside of his service, Clifford knew how to enjoy life. He had a deep love for music and could often be found moving to a good beat, dancing with ease and confidence. He enjoyed being in good company and had a natural appreciation for the presence of a beautiful woman. His charm, combined with his laid-back spirit, made him someone people gravitated toward. Whether through laughter, storytelling, or simply sharing a moment, Clifford left a lasting impression on those around him.
He held a special place as an uncle and great-uncle to a host of nieces and nephews, offering wisdom, humor, and a steady presence that will be deeply missed.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, Burnes and Virginia Pettis; his sisters, Cheryl, Carlin, Virginia, and Lorna; and his brothers, Kevin, Boris, and Arnold L. Pettis Sr. He now joins them in eternal rest.
He leaves to cherish his memory of his remaining siblings, Gregory and Stephanie Pettis, along with a large extended family who will continue to carry his legacy forward.
Clifford’s life reminds us to stand strong, love deeply, and enjoy the moments in between—the music, the laughter, and the connections that make life meaningful.
