Clifford E. Millings, age 87, affectionately known as (Sonny or Sonny Boy) by his family, was born November 18, 1937 in Union Springs, Alabama to Clifford and Willie Lee (Germany) Millings. He moved to Akron in the 1950’s where he was introduced to Bernice Davis by her brother, Mack. They married on June 4, 1964 celebrating 60 years of marriage last year.
Clifford first became employed with the Akron City Club before he became employed with The Chrysler Corporation in 1964 where he was a member of the UAW Local #122. He retired from Chrysler in December 1995 after 30 years of service.
Clifford loved the Lord. He was baptized and became a member of the A.O.H. Church of God under the leadership of Elder Azell Cooley before he and his family joined the First Apostolic Faith Church where he has been a faithful member for over 40 years. He has served as a Deacon and a Trustee, he was a member of the Brotherhood, he attended Sunday School and Bible Study and he served on the Bereavement Committee. Clifford and Bernice also took care of the church grounds maintaining all of the beautiful landscaping.
During his 29 years of retirement he enjoyed walks at the mall with Bernice, working and growing vegetables in his garden, and he loved to work in his yard. He & Bernice received numerous Beautification Awards from the City of Akron for maintaining such a beautiful home. Clifford also enjoyed spending time with his family and he loved eating Bernice’s cooking.
Clifford is preceded in death by his parents; his infant son, Jeffrey; sister-Bernice Calloway; brothers-Norman Millings and Woodrow Millings; sisters-in-law-Janie Davis, Susie Stephens and Clara Sheppard.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, whom he truly loved, Bernice; his children-Crystal (Dale) Roper; Michele Renee Millings; Benita (Michael) Brooks all of Akron, Oh and Gwen (Frank) Muhammad of Dayton, Oh; his grandchildren-Aaron Brooks, Amber Brooks, Aliyah Brooks, Candace Roper all of Akron, Oh and Carmelita (James) Burrows and Jamilah Lopez of Dayton, Oh; great-grandchildren-RhaShawn Brooks of Albany, NY and Ja’Miah Rodgers of Dayton, Oh; brother-Edgar(Earnestine) Millings of Alabaster, Alabama; brothers-in-law-Earl (Thelma) Davis and Mack Davis all of Akron, Oh; sisters-in-law-Brenda (Clifford) Curtis of Birmingham, Al, and Gerry Millings and Loretta Jenkins of Akron, Ohio and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
