Columbus Gooden AKA Chris BKA Snap was born February 23, 1951, in Stafford, AL. He was the second son of Mr. Robert Gooden and Ollie Woods Gooden. God called Snap home early Monday morning December 27, 2021, at 4:10am.
Snap grew up in Safford AL, where he was raised by his grandparents Carrie Anne Woods (BKA Booie) and Joe Woods. They all belong to Aimwell Baptist Church. There at Aimwell is where Snap was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and savior.
Snap attended Keith High School in Orville AL. As a teenager he would help his grandparents tend to their farm and cattle. He left home when he was nineteen and moved to Cleveland, OH. Soon after arriving in Cleveland, he met and married Sara Smiley and began his career at Ford Motor Company as a machinist.
Snap loved his family! He was very family oriented; he threw a party for every occasion. He loved to dance, he was the life of the party; he would bust out his James Brown moves and do a split, if you blinked you would miss it. Snap was always best dressed. He could wear any color and make it look good, which is how he caught the eye of his 2nd wife Mary “Honey” Whitlock Gooden. Snap and Mary were married on November 14, 2005. They honored their vows and remained married until death did, he part.
Snap enjoyed singing his favorite song: Sending up My Timber by the 5 Blind Boys of Mississippi. Another favorite hobby of his was fishing; although he was afraid of the deep water, he still managed to catch plenty of fish.
Snap was a proud family man, he loved to inner act with all five of his children: Cynthia Smiley, Tara Hardy, Yania (Benjamin) Turney, Christopher Gooden and Carita (Alan) Burke.
Snap leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving and devoted wife Mary (Honey) Whitlock Gooden. Four daughters: Cynthia Smiley, Tara Hardy, Yania Turney, Carita Burke and one son Christopher Gooden. Two stepsons: Charles Whitlock and Roland Gorkoya. Fifteen grand children: Malaysia, Maleik, Ta’Ron, Sha’Ron, Grace, Nyima, Salem, Hardin (Scotty), Akemi, Christopher Jr. Tristen, Iyssys, Christian, Jamea, Eriyan. Six sisters: Regina (Harvey) Wells of Akron, OH. Annie Jane Gooden of Cleveland OH., Annie (Collie) Smiley of Phoenix City, AL., Edna Thompson of Columbia, SC., Virginia (Daniel) Suggs of Minneapolis, MN., Ann Jewel Taylor of Cleveland, OH., and one brother Dwight (Marcella) Woods of Orville, AL., One Sister-n-law: Rosetta (Lamonde) Prude, Three Brother-n-laws: John Boyd, Jim (Felicia) Boyd and Anthony Boyd. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and other relatives from AL, NY, OH, TX, MN and many dear friends.
He proceeded in death by his grandparents: Carrie Ann Woods and Joe woods. His parents: Robert Gooden and Ollie Woods Gooden, and his oldest brother: Jimmy Lee Gooden.
