Constance was born April 2, 1936 to Webster Donahue and Marian C. (Donahue) Gaither. Connie attended Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from Glenville High School in 1954. She started her career at Ohio Bell right after graduation and retired with over 35 years of service. Later in her career, she obtained her Associates Degree from Cuyahoga Community College.
In February of 1956, Connie married her high school sweetheart, James McIntyre. From their union, three daughters were born; Yvonne Marie (who preceded her in death), Roslyn Anne and Carla Jane. They divorced years later and she married McKinley Childress, who preceded her in death.
As a youth, Connie attended Antioch Baptist Church where she accepted Christ at an early age. Later in life, she joined Lee Road Baptist Church, where she was an active member. She was involved in various committees, which included Membership Involvement, Vacation Bible School and Christian Education. She enjoyed going to the Senior Drop-in Center at the church.
When it came to playing bridge, Connie was proficient and accomplished in the game. She earned trophies and masters points. She enjoyed bowling and needlepoint. She was very active, outgoing and liked listening to AL Green. She also enjoyed spending quality time with her family.
Connie was very proud of her family and loved to show off her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would often say when introducing them “These are my grands,” and would smile from ear to ear. She always supported her family any way she could without hesitation. She had the warmest and kindest spirit, and was able to make someone laugh with her humor.
Connie departed this life on Thursday, October 19, 2023. She is survived by her daughters, Roslyn Peterson and Carla Wilder; her five grandchildren, Yvonne, Daniel, Ryan, Eboni and Amber; ten great grandchildren, Nat’le, Demetrius, Kennedy, Daneah, Sidney, Rylei, Rhyan, Navi, Demario, and Mikaylah; cousins, friends, nephews and nieces, and her god-daughters, Gerilyn, Irene and Angela.
