Courtney Anne Jones-Hunter went home to be with the Lord on May 8, 2024 at the age of 59.

Courtney was born August 29, 1964 in Akron, Ohio to Jesse White Jr. and Rosita (White) Matthews. She attended St. Anthony Elementary School, Jennings Middle School, and graduated from North High School in 1982. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Science in School Counseling from The University of Akron.

Courtney married her devoted husband Dallas C. Hunter III, in 2009. They were married for 15 years. Courtney raised two children, Alex Andrew and Courtney Alexis Jones. She was proud to be an educator for 30 years in Akron Public Schools at Goodyear Middle and East CLC. She cherished her students and developed familial relationships with many of them. She had several small groups she led while being an educator, but her most recent contribution was her ROX group, Ruling Our Experience. This is an initiative centered on research-backed resources and programs to help girls use their voice, rule their experiences and embrace their confidence.

Courtney was a proud member of Arlington Church of God. She eagerly volunteered for several ministries including being the scholarship chair and committee member, vacation bible school and kidz landing teacher, EVE program, YEPAW, YEPAW 365, and being a greeter. She was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Zeta Theta Omega Chapter. She served as the chapter Hostess and on several committees. Courtney had a “servant’s spirit” and she loved caring for family and friends. She was the host of family holidays and competitive game nights of Taboo, Bananagrams, and Phase 10. Courtney was the best spades partner out there!

Courtney was preceded in death by her sister, Cydney Martin; grandmother, Helen Macklin, grandfather Jesse W. White Sr.; aunts, Anita G. Bowens and Mary E. Harvey. She leaves to cherish her memories her beloved husband, Dallas C. Hunter III; children, Alex and Courtney; stepchildren, Kevin, Tara, and Jessica (Chris) Hunter-Hinsvark, grandchildren, Nikolaus, Karter, Kais, Kevin Jr. and Avery; parents, Rosita Matthews and Jesse (Alyce) White, Jr.; brother, Jonathan White; sister, Camille White. Courtney leaves so many more treasured family, friends, and other loved ones whom she valued dearly. Courtney’s memory will live on Forever. We Love You!

Greatly missed!

Mrs. Jones helped me through some of the toughest times of my life. She started off as my algebra teacher at Goodyear middle school. She then became my advanced algebra teacher. To be honest, I didn't care for her at first. I thought she was too strict and gave out way too much homework (as most kids would think). Later, as I reached high school status at East, she would become someone I cared about and had deep respect for. She helped me through many trying times from my own identity as a person to my parents splitting up. She always had encouraging words and a thoughtfulness about her. I don't have too many good memories about that time of my life, but she is definitely a great one! To the surviving family and friends, my condolences on a great loss.

I’m sorry for y’all loss . This death hit me so hard I looked at her like a second mother she understood me and listened to my problems . I loved her and still do till this day . She’s making the sky beautiful . May she rest in peace .

I’m so sorry this happened I really wish she was here she was like a mother to me the only one who really heard me I wish I could hear her tell me she loved me or hear her call me goofy one more time and give her a hug one more time I’ve been so lost without her all the time I have a I need mrs jones hunter moment and I just can’t imagine how this affected her family and I’m really sorry and i just can’t imagine her in that moment but I’m just truly sorry and she’s in a way better place now watching over you guys and I’ll never forget her and she will forever be like my mom 💞

To Courtney's family: I am so very sorry for your loss. She was one of the sweetest people ever. I met her when our sons were in the same kindergarten. We went through undergrad together, and she road with me sometimes. During our rides, I got to know a determined, caring young mother who I knew would become an excellent educator. She showed strength and empathy during our class discussions. We then went through the counseling program where she continued to shine. As a counselor, she was an outspoken advocate for students and our profession. She was well loved and will be missed by us all. May God give you peace and comfort.

Courtney had the heart of a mother in all of her amazing work in the Akron Public Schools and I, along with countless others, was blessed to have witnessed it. She was an advocate for all students with limitless compassion and a leader in every regard. Allow her to live in all of still for the examples she has set. Remembering your family in prayer, every day.

Courtney was such a bright light in this world. She cared for her students immensely over the years, making sure they were clothed, fed, and most of all loved. She was also an advocate for our school counseling department here in Akron, speaking up where changes needed to be made for us to fulfill our roles effectively. Although I only knew Courtney for a brief time, her legacy will continue on through the work she did and the way she cared for all of us. She will be greatly missed.

Mrs Jones I'm so sorry. Mrs. Jones was my neighbor for years. Her big and little Alex and Lil Courtney. I really miss living next door too them. Mrs Jones was a lovely mother too her children and wife too her husband she will be dearly missed. God rest your soul make sure you get your rest beautiful I love you always and forever.
