Curtis Smith Jr passed away peacefully on April 5th, 2024 following a long illness. He was born May 6th, 1948 to the late Sarah Smith and Curtis Smith in Alabaster, AL.
The family moved to Akron, OH where he attended East High School. He worked various jobs throughout his life. Curtis enjoyed several activities such as roller blading, basketball, boxing and etc.
Curtis enjoyed playing pool and won several awards for his pool skills. Curtis also taught his friend Sean and his daughter Alaina Cain-Calloway how to play pool as well. His daughter Alaina then taught her oldest child Chantelle Smith(Lewis) how to play pool also. In honor of Curtis the family will continue to pass on the love and skill for playing pool throughout the generations.
Curtis will forever be remembered in many ways. However here are just a few memories to capture his personality.
“I enjoyed traveling to Alabama every summer with Cousins Curtis and “Deane” (Wilma Dean Smith)
riding with my father who had an older car and to make sure the car remained even he would strategically put one person on each side of the car to balance car evenly. I was told if a car had too much weight on one side it would damage the car.” (Cousin Teresa)
“Dad was so ghetto, I remember this One party event to celebrate 3 different things all in the same day. The 3 in 1 party was to celebrate my birthday, Dad’s birthday, and Sepia’s. On top of that it was also a Potluck Wedding and Reception. Sepia his wife to be had graduated earlier that day. We went back and forth between the party and wedding reception what a day.” (Alaina Cain Calloway)
Curtis is preceded in death by his parents, siblings and many loved ones. He is survived by his daughter Alaina Cain Calloway, Grandchildren; Chantelle Smith( Lewis) Jaequon Cain, Keirra Smith, Trey Calloway, Vashaun Hodges and Great grandchild Kehlani Amour and a host of other relatives and close friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to everyone for all of your prayers, calls, floral tributes and other acts of comforting kindness that were expressed during our time of bereavement. We ask you continue to pray for our family as we adjust our lives without our beloved one and more personal acknowledgements will made at a later date.
