Curtis Montgomery, age 87, passed away October 1, 2024.
Curtis was born in Green County, Alabama to the late James “Jim” and Sarah Scarborough Montgomery. He was the 12th of 15 children born to this union. Curtis accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in Green County, Alabama. He graduated in 1956 from Green County Training School where he ran track and was known as “rabbit.” Curtis enlisted in the United States Army where he served nine years. He worked for the Caterpillar Corporation and retired from Cleveland Municipal School district after 15 years. Curtis and Susie married in 1999 where they spent 25 years together. Curtis loved fishing, bowling, playing bid whist, and dominos at the VFW. Curtis was a devoted member of Beulah Baptist Church and served on the usher board until his passing.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents James and Sarah Montgomery, his former wife, Mary Montgomery Knight, his siblings; Willie, Howard, James “Shorty”, George, Hollie, David, Fletcher, Eddie, Annie, Etta Pearl, Betty, Sarah, Cheztez Marcia Ellington.
He leaves to mourn his wife Susie Montgomery, his siblings; Sammy Montgomery, Ruth Dunn (Chattanooga, TN). Daughter; Veronica Montgomery. In-Laws; Frankie, Ophelia, Hazel, Jerry, Linda. Grandchildren; Domien’que Montgomery, Imani Ellington. Twelve great-grandchildren; Na’Lani Montgomery, Jacquez Montgomery, Jaquel Ellington, Dionna Montgomery, Ja’Mari White, J’Sire Ellington, Chloe White, Dion Brown Jr., Journee White, A’Dore White, A’LeeYah and A’LaiYah Jones, and K’Marie.
