Curtis O’Neal passed away April 14, 2018. Curtis was born on July 28, 1965, in Manhattan, New York, to Dorothy (Hill) O’Neal and Hampton O’Neal.
He graduated from Collinwood High school in 1985 and excelled in basketball, where he earned the nickname ‘Quick Curt”. He later attended Bloomfield College in New Jersey where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. Upon graduation, Curtis went on to pursue a career in Law enforcement, graduating from the police academy in 1997. He became a police officer for the State of New Jersey, until his retirement in 2007, when he moved to Kent, Ohio. In August of 2014, Curtis accepted Christ into his life and was baptized at the Ravenna Avenue Church of God.
Curtis was the biggest Dallas Cowboys Fan the world has ever known. He lived and breathed football. He would sometimes leave family gatherings early saying, “my Cowboys are on”. He had the most amazing sense of humor. Curtis found humor in just about everything; Even when he lost his legs, he would say things like, “well, I guess I can’t run away anymore”. Sometimes, he would threaten to throw his prosthetic legs at people. He also loved his independence. He was strong-willed and loved to put people out of his house, especially nurses and aides.
Curtis is survived by his wife of 8 years, Antoinette (Beasley) O’Neal; children Kiyana ONeal, Curtis J. O’Neal, and Greg Sneed as well as his 3 stepsons, grandchildren, Isaiah O’Neal and Kamyah Scott, parents, Dorothy (Samuel) Taylor, siblings, Jennifer (Clarence) Williams, Cynthia Taylor, April Taylor, and Jerome O’Neal, as well as a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Janie and Mose Taylor, as well as his maternal grandparents, Creola and James Hill.
Curtis will be remembered for his love of the Dallas Cowboys, his amazing sense of humor, his determination and strength, and most of all, his love and devotion for family.
