Daisy Grayson was born on June 19th, 1940, in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Deacon Edgar and late Elizabeth Bolden Grayson. Daisy was the 3rd youngest child out of 20 children. Daisy was raised up attending Big Creek Missionary Baptist Church, she gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized there in Jackson. She also sang in the church choir and was a Sunday School Scholar. Daisy attended Sumner Hill High School. Daisy also was in a family choir called the Grayson Singer’s where she sang alto. She moved from Jackson, Mississippi to Cleveland, Ohio at the age of 21, with her first-born son, Charles Grayson.
When Daisy first began to establish her roots in Cleveland, she went on to have four more children. She supported her family by working for the Cleveland Hopkins Airport Catering Service. Daisy then went on to work for the Cleveland Board of Education as a lunch aide and is remembered by many people to this day as a “Awesome and sweet lunch lady.” She was loved by many. Daisy was known as a hardworking, soft spoken, kind, and dedicated woman. In her free time, Daisy enjoyed listening and dancing to blues music, especially B.B. King and Z.Z. Hill, and Gospel Music doing crossword puzzles, reading the paper and cooking. Her favorite food was okra, and she always enjoyed watching shows set in old Western times, The Andy Griffith Show and Lifetime Movies. Daisy loved spending time with her family and attending family reunions and gatherings.
Preceding Daisy in death are her parents Edgar and Elizabeth Bolden Grayson; siblings, Erma Smith, James R. Grayson, Elouise Grayson, Eddie L. Grayson, Winfield Grayson, Dorothy M. Richardson, Addie R. Ford, Johnnie B. Grayson, Saul Grayson, Solomon Grayson, Edgar W. Grayson, and six other siblings who died at birth including her twin David; son, Eugene Grayson and son-in-law Jeffrey Perkins. Daisy’s legacy will continue to live on and will be deeply cherished by her loving family. She leaves behind sisters Lula B. Williams in Jackson, Mississippi and Essie G. Franklin (Clarence) in Fontana, California; children, Charles Grayson, Mary Perkins, Curtis Grayson (Vivian), and Marcus Grayson, daughter-in-law Lorna Grayson, and her additional God daughter Octavia Richardson; grandchildren Eugene Taylor, Charleese Grayson, Cortez Grayson, Vivica Grayson, Jocelyn Perkins, and Marcus Grayson Jr.; great-grandchildren Mykayla Taylor, Kairo Taylor and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and family members and friends.
Daisy lived a long and happy 84 years, although she is no longer here in person, her spirit will be with us, and she will be forever remembered. May her soul rest peacefully and eternally in the comforting arms of our Lord and Savior.
