Daryl Vincent Lash was born in Akron, Ohio to the union of James Verle and Thelma Elizabeth (Martin) Lash on July 4, 1955, and passed away on June 29, 2023. Daryl attended Akron Public Schools. He graduated from Garfield High School where he was inducted into the National Honor Society. He also excelled in wrestling. Daryl won individual titles in several tournaments. He won as the top wrestler in Ohio Class AAA in his weight class in 1973 and was described by one coach as an “exceptional and hard working” wrestler. Daryl attended the University of Cincinnati on a wrestling scholarship.
Daryl preferred a vocation that allowed him to travel or move around. During most of his career, he worked as a long-distance truck driver and formed his own trucking business. During his young adult years, Daryl enjoyed socializing and working with those in the leisure and entertainment field and the fun of the Disco Era of the mid 70’s. One of his favorite vacation spots was Atlantic City. Daryl also enjoyed going to the gym and watching sports events. He loved to engage others in philosophical banter and debate. For decades Daryl enlightened himself with the spiritual teachings of Arabic culture, and during the last few years, taught classes enhancing spiritual growth.
Daryl was preceded in death by his sons, Daryl Vincent Lash Jr. and Rashad Matthews; parents James Verle and Thelma Elizabeth Lash; brothers James Verle Lash, Jr., Westley Steven Lash, and Adrian Keith Lash.
Left to mourn his loss is his daughter, La’Shawnna Taylor; his six grandchildren: Lamyra Taylor, Gibreea Dowdell, Faith Dowdell, Gibraun Dowdell, Brandyn Matthews, and Bryanna Matthews; brother Malcolm Lash; sister Dr. Sharon Lash; aunts Mildred Lash and Janet Lash; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
