Daryl Marquette Evege was born on February 23, 1966. His parents, Dorothy and Walter, provided a very loving and Christian home as a foundation to Daryl and his two younger sisters. Their Christian home led Daryl to accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. Daryl continued to acknowledge Christ and who He was throughout his life, whether through conversation or sitting in a pew.
Growing up, Daryl was an adventurous and active boy scout. He proudly earned many badges. He attended Old Trail and Copley Fairlawn City Schools. Daryl’s great athletic ability was evidenced on the football field at every level he played. His overwhelming joy was playing at the collegiate level at Central State University and Sacramento City College in California. Daryl was gifted and talented in swimming, skiing, basketball, track, wrestling, and held a black belt in karate.
Daryl’s special times and places of happiness, laughter, and smiles were spending time with his children, grandchildren, and attending his nephews’ basketball and dance competitions. Daryl loved to watch his favorite team, the Cleveland Browns, who he had been a huge fan of since childhood. As a young child, Daryl’s greatest moment was when he received a phone call from his idol, the Great Muhammad Ali. This phone call transformed Daryl into believing he was invincible.
Daryl had a great passion for dogs. Every dog he came in contact with was the recipient of his special gifts and touch of love. Daryl’s ultimate dream was of opening a rescue center for dogs. Daryl captured the attention of many on social media through his Facebook page entitled, “Big Dawgs Rescue”, owner and founder, Daryl Evege. Through this inception, Daryl traveled all the way to Florida and back to Akron with a dog he rescued named Rocky.
Daryl was preceded in death by his father, Walter Lee Evege Jr., son, Zhontae Woolridge and grandmother, Mary Gay Johnson.
Daryl will always be remembered as a loving son, brother, father, uncle, family member, and friend. To cherish those memories, and to tell the story of his legacy, he leaves his mother, Dorothy; sisters, Dietrich and Daphine; his children, Dante, Josh, Sharelle, Daryl Jr., Jebriel, Imani, and Sierra; nephews, Chris and Carter; and his grandchildren, family members and friends. Daryl also leaves a most beloved friend and constant companion, his dog, Ash.
