David Allen Toles was born January 3, 1964, in Akron, Ohio. He was the second of four children born to James E. Toles, Sr and Rosetta Martin-Toles. As a lifelong resident of Akron, he attended Akron Public Schools and graduated from East High in 1982. David was a sports enthusiast; he played baseball and lettered in basketball and football. He could recall games and players from college to the pro teams and give you statistics on each. He was a home team fan, the Cavs, the Browns, the Buckeyes all the way. His favorite football player was Walter Payton. David admired Walter’s skill, but more importantly, he admired his giving.
After high school David entered the United States, Army serving on the DMZ between North and South Korea. During his time there he supported a starving family and ended his 3.5 years of service as a Private First Class with a marksman ranking.
After the military, David drove for Lake Erie Construction, then onto the United States Postal Service following in the footsteps of his parents. He began as a carrier and achieved the position of Postal Manager where he excelled and received many accolades. He earned the respect of his colleagues and all those who served under him before retiring with 30 years of service.
David had a passion for music and a beautiful singing voice. He often sang with his mother and brothers. Singing brought him great joy, as did quizzing any and everyone on who sang what. He prided himself on his lawn and loved caring for his plants.
David had a host of friends, his silliness and quick wit brought everyone to fits of laughter. He loved history and often shared random facts whether you wanted to hear them or not. David was a truth teller, a man of integrity, a man of his word. He was a kind, loving man, giving to whoever asked and to those he saw in need.
David loved his family deeply. There was nothing he would not do for his parents, brothers, sister, niece, nephew, cousins and friends. His children, Brittany and Mason, and his granddaughters Jada (Dooders) and Jurni, ruled his heart. David was an amazing father, brother, son and a faithful friend. He will be greatly missed.
David experienced many health challenges, but he met each one with strength and courage. On June 18th the Lord called his name and he answered “yes”. David was preceded in death by his father, James E. Toles Sr; mother, Rosetta Martin-Toles; and his brothers, Jonathan Eric Toles and James E. Toles, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Brittany Toles; son, Mason Fear; stepson, Jonathan Fedrick;, stepdaughter, Juanese Franklin; sister, Jennifer Toles; grandchildren, Jada, Jurni, Jonathan, Jr., Jacob; niece, Jacquelyn (Leonard) Remmer; nephew, Xavier Toles; great nephew, Aiden; great niece, Aubrey; great aunt, Mary Mitchell; aunts, Elizabeth Lander, Connie Walker, Margaret Banks, Doris (Lenzie) Overstreet, Gloria (Elmer) LuGrand, Sharon Jama; favorite cousins, Leon & Michelle Byrd, Fletcher Cash, Derek Brown; cherished friend, Janice Franklin; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
