In Loving Memory of David Douglas McDonald Jr.
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of David Douglas McDonald Jr., who was called home to glory on March 6, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on July 11, 1934, in Tuskegee, Alabama, David was the eldest child of Lucy and David Douglas McDonald Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved brother Benny, and his cherished sisters, Edna and Linda. David’s journey through life was marked by resilience, love, and an unwavering commitment to family and community.
After spending his early years in Macon, Georgia, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he graduated from Central Senior High School in 1953. It was in Cleveland that he met the love of his life, Noridean Rocquemore, to whom he was married for 68 beautiful years. Together, they built a loving home and raised two devoted daughters, Davida and Deidre. A hardworking and dedicated professional, David spent 35 years at General Motors’ Fisher Body plant, where he was an esteemed member of UAW Local 45 before transitioning into management.
His entrepreneurial spirit led him to successful ventures in real estate, security services, and manufacturing.Beyond his career, David was a passionate civic leader, playing an active role in political campaigns and community organizations. He was recognized for his efforts with numerous awards, including Cleveland’s “Good Neighbor of the Year” by the Ohio House of Representatives.
David’s larger-than-life personality, sharp wit, and love for life were evident in everything he did. Whether enjoying a round of golf, casting a fishing line, or spending time with his family and friends, he embraced each moment with joy. Despite significant health challenges, he faced life’s hurdles with unwavering strength and humor, leaving behind a legacy of perseverance and authenticity. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and laughter. David is survived by his beloved wife Noridean McDonald; daughters Davida Russell (Carl) and Deidre McDonald Wells (Grady); grandchildren Domonique Russell Turner (Reuben), Grady Jr. (Ada), DaySha Wells, and Brittany Russell; thirteen great-grandchildren; siblings Lethal Thomas, Mary McDonald, and Hiram McDonald; sister-in-law Sheila Rocquemore; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held to honor his remarkable life and enduring legacy. May he rest in eternal peace.
