David Frederick Douglas went home to be with the Lord on November 4, 2021. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee on September 24, 1937, to parents Rev. D.G. Douglas and Rev. Maggie Inez Taylor. He was the eldest of 10 children, the patriarch of the family. He attended Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis. To help care for his mother and siblings, he stepped up as a man and he went on to serve in the U.S. Army and Air Force, earning honorable discharge. He lived most of his life in Akron, OH. David was hard working and had a zest for life. He retired from Chrysler Corporation, UAW Local# 122, retiring after 37 ½ years of service. He was raised in the church as a youth and spread the Word of God throughout his lifetime. He was united in Holy Matrimony with Joan Douglas on December 27, 1975. David was a devoted husband, dedicated, reliable, and kind-hearted. He possessed a great sense of humor and will be truly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He left his wisdom and teachings on every member of his family, and friends alike, instilling many values. He always kept busy and enjoyed working on cars, fishing, grilling, singing, music, dancing, playing pool and card games, discovering new electronics, and learning technology.
David was preceded in death by his parents, David and Maggie; brothers, Giles Partee Jr. of Indiana, Anthony Partee of Iowa, Robert Partee of Mississippi, and Ricky Taylor of Texas; sisters, Rev. Magnolia Henderson of Florida and Emma Foreman of Indiana.
David leaves to cherish in love and memory of him, his loving wife, Joan Douglas; daughters, Kimberley Douglas of Akron OH, and Jowaun Brown (Martin Greenwade) of Akron OH; sons, Anthony Vaughn (Ersina) Douglas of Akron OH, and Jeffrey Brown of Ohio; sisters, Dr. Martha A. Brown of Maryland, Deborah (Larry) Roberson of Ohio, Dorothy Fullmore of Ohio, Linda Mathis of Ohio, and Brenda McIver of Ohio; brothers, Arthur Douglass of Ohio, Min. Frank Partee of Ohio, Benny Mathis Jr. (Dune) of Georgia, and James Craig of Ohio; special nieces, Tracy Fullmore Clark of Akron, OH and Elaine Ousley of Indianapolis; special nephew, Lloyd Evers of Indianapolis; a host of many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and numerous relatives and friends.
He will be missed by all. David has lived a good life and, in the end, fought a good fight. Job well done.
