By God’s loving grace, David Lee Evans, age 81, transitioned peacefully from this life May 15, 2024. He was born in Akron, Ohio on April 15, 1943 to Ernest Evans and Elizabeth Smart. He was the youngest of six children and attended Howe Elementary and West Junior High. He graduated from South High School in 1961.
David was an avid sports fan and participant. He played basketball and ran track in high school, and during his time at the University of Akron.
He married Dorothy Daniel on May 20, 1972 in Akron, Ohio. They had two children, Veralyn Evans and Jasmin Evans.
He enjoyed traveling for jazz concerts and track and field events with family and friends. A rousing, loud and entertaining game of Dirty Hearts during family holiday get-togethers was a common occurrence. The card table often became a “rights of passage” for new people joining the family.
Dave, as he was affectionately known, had a strong work ethic, working many jobs during his life, often concurrently. He was a Medic in the Army Reserves from 1964-1970 and worked for many companies/organizations including PPG, Mohawk, and The Akron Urban League. David also worked for Akron Public Schools for 26 years, in various capacities. He was beloved by many of his colleagues and students, and retired from Akron Public Schools in 2008.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Elizabeth; sisters, Charlotte Manns and Joanne Grant; brother, Gerald Evans; and son, Colin Evans.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Veralyn and Jasmin; two beloved grandsons, Davin Evans (Ashley) and Daudi-Amir Evans; and one beloved great grand-daughter, Aubrey Jean.
