David L. Martin, the eldest child born on March 22, 1938, to the late Leonidas and Rosetta Martin, Sr., ascended to the heavens to join his beloved, Evyonne Mae, Thursday, July 27, 2023. He leaves us to join his siblings, Loretta Wade, Leonidas Martin Jr., and Kenneth Martin.
He was a native Washingtonian and the product of the DC Public School System, graduating from Cardozo High School in 1956. He attended Howard University and became a licensed architect (American Institute of Architects of America, AIA).
He married his life partner, Evyonne Goodnight, November 3, 1962. Their first bundle of joy arrived a year later and, after a six-and-a-half-year hiatus, their second baby bundle popped onto the scene. His career began at Guilani and Associates, where he enjoyed and thrived working on various projects throughout the Washington metropolitan area. Along the way, he developed wonderful, lifelong friendships that lasted beyond the workplace. David and Evyonne established many treasured relationships along with countless valued family connections.
His skill and attention to detail led him to the heights of management. He concluded his career in the engineering department at Amtrak, where he relocated his family to Philadelphia in 1985. After retirement, he could always be found puttering in the yard, gardening, building, sketching designs, or working with numbers to maximize the family net worth. David and Evyonne spent the balance of their retirement years residing in Fairlawn, OH with Michelle, Bryant, and grandson Brennan. They were both lavished with love, affection, and devout care.
He will be remembered mostly for his love and dedication to his family. He leaves to carry out his legacy: his treasured daughters: Deborah L. Martin, Michelle R. Martin-Christian; his beloved son-in-law: Bryant K. Christian; cherished grandson: Brennan K. Christian; dearest cousins: Eloise and Charles Clarke, Lucinda Scales, Sharon Tinsley and Natalie Reid; caring In-Laws: Willard (Jacquelyn) Goodnight, Sr., Patricia Goodnight, Beverly Goodnight; dearest Nieces and Nephews; Tracy (Lakisha) Wade, Craig (Alice) Martin, Monica Martin-Swinton (Ian), Mark L. Goodnight, Lisa M. Goodnight-Sturdivant (Lex), and Marlon T. Martin (Ellise), and a host of other loving family members and friends.
