Debra Bush, born on February 26, 1953, to parents George and Lois Young, embarked on a life journey filled with love, laughter, and profound connections. She peacefully passed away on December 10, 2023, at the age of 70, joining her beloved parents and siblings Derrick “Mickey,” George Jr., and sister Teresita in eternal rest.
Debra’s spiritual journey began at an early age, accepting Christ while attending Lee Memorial AME Church. In later years she found a church home at Pilgrim Church of Christ where she served on the Community Hot Meal Feeding ministry.
In 1971, Debra graduated from Glenville High School, setting the stage for a remarkable career. She embraced her role as a teacher’s assistant at East Madison Elementary, focusing on the growth and development of pre-K and kindergarten students. Her work ethic later extended to the industrial realm, where she contributed many years to LTV Steel.
After her tenure at East Madison Elementary and LTV Steel, Debra found a new chapter in her career at McDonald’s, where she served as a manager until her well-deserved retirement. Debra found the perfect outlet for her boundless love for people. A true social butterfly, she never met a stranger, speaking and connecting with everyone she encountered. Her warmth and genuine affection for others left an indelible mark.
Debra’s joy in life revolved around her family, especially her husband, daughter, and “grandbabies.” She loved to dance, relishing any opportunity to share her often sentimental thoughts at events. In retirement, she spent summers on her porch, welcoming neighbors and friends for heartfelt conversations, advice, laughter, and music. Affectionately known as Ms. Bush, she was a straight shooter, offering candid advice rooted in love.
Debra is survived by her loving husband Joseph, devoted daughter Monique (Michael), and cherished grandchildren Monique, Malia, and Miles. She leaves behind her sister Karen (“Renee”) and brother Kelvin (Janice). Fondly remembered by nieces Belinda (Victor), Sheena (Jimmy), Shalita (Timothy), nephew Eric (Kim), great-nephews Ledondrick, Eric, and Victor Jr., and great-niece Erica. A lifelong friend, Linda, also mourns her passing, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
As we celebrate Debra’s life, let us remember the joy she brought, the connections she forged, and the love she generously shared with all who were fortunate enough to know her. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration in the days ahead.
