Deloris Canty was born February 15, 1945, in Montgomery, Alabama to Erena Smith and William Smith Sr. She attended and graduated from East Technical High School. Soon after she started her career at the United States Postal Service.
Deloris enjoyed spending time with her family and was a proud mother. She had a daughter, Cheryl Grant, and a son, Andrew Canty. She especially loved spending time with her husband Jesse Porter, her children, and grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Besides working at the United States Postal Service for 45 years, she was also entrepreneur. She enjoyed traveling, going to the casino and racetrack, and playing bingo. Some of her best memories are taking traditional trips to Canada each year, being there for her son’s biggest accomplishments (buying his first car, teaching him how to drive, birth of her grandson, and when he became store manager), having her daughter help with rehabbing houses, attending the flower and house show annually, shopping for her daughter wedding dress and planning the wedding, and most importantly the life lessons of teaching her daughter how to be an independent women and go-getter.
She was called home after her parents, Erena and William Smith Sr., (sister) Linda Poole and (brother) Dennis Smith.
Deloris leaves to cherish her memories, her husband Jesse Porter; children, Cheryl Grant and Andrew Canty; grandchildren, Samuel Grant, Christopher Grant and Amote Canty; great-grandchildren,
