I was born March 5, 1983, to the parentage of Kutural E. Rembert nee (Harris) and Demetrius Houston Pryor. A lot of people called me by my first name- Demetrius but was more affectionate known by “Lavelle”, especially during my younger life. God saw to call me home after spending what would be my last Christmas on earth with my mom, where I ate, laughed, and soaked up a lot of holiday love from my family. I departed this life December 26, 2023.
I attended Cleveland Public Schools and later obtained my G.E.D. I also attended Lorain Community College in pursuit of my Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant Certification and began to advocate for others who had experienced some of the same challenges as me, such as, drug addiction, alcoholism, and even incarceration.
I became a Re-Entry Specialist and House Manager at the Chance House, where I resided as Overseer of an amazing group of guys who were also seeking change. Additionally, I became connected with theP2R Training and Resource Center and later obtained employment from that same organization, where I gave back by advocating for sober living, while serving as a Peer Support and Training Case Manager.
I found myself always trying to assist others wherever I could, which led me to my teaching role, where I taught the maneuverability portion of the driving course necessary for people to get their licenses. I was also certified in CPR and learned how to sign through a sign language program I completed.
As a child, I loved playing outdoors with my siblings and as I got older. I enjoyed playing cards and bowling. One of my newer hobbies was playing the XBOX with my children and my brother, “DaRohn”. I was also a dedicated Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved arguing with my uncle Anthony and my uncle Yucon during football season as they were huge Cleveland Browns fans. The rivalry was real, lol. And for those who really knew me, they knew I enjoyed camping with my Road To Hope family, and AA sponsor, Chris Ross.
In fact, I owned my own camper that Chris and I were going to work on this summer so I could take my children camping, but my tomorrow never came.
I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and later moved to Lorain, Ohio, until I departed this world. I worked three jobs, so I could adequately provide for my children whom I loved dearly.
I was preceded in death by my maternal great-grandmother, Fronie Harris of Cleveland, Ohio.
I leave behind to cherish; my mother, Kutural Harris Rembert (K.C.); my father, Demetrius Houston Pryor; my maternal grandmother, Yvonne Harris (“love you granny”); and my paternal grandmother, Marie Pryor.
I also leave behind to cherish, my beloved children, Demetrius Harris Jr., Artavius Harris, Hezekiah Harris, and MaLaka Kirkman.
I leave behind to cherish; 4 brothers, Antonio Pryor, (Jasmine) of Atlanta, Georgia, Irwan Prat, DaRohn Pryor, and Charles White all of Cleveland, Ohio; my sisters whom I also love and cherish, Tiffany Alston, Keonna Cobbs, Javonne Grey (Kinga), Shalonde Oliver (John), and Celeste White.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that I leave behind.
To all my “Chance House” and “P2R” family, keep doing what you do. Mad love to you all.
In closing, my goal was to someday start a business of my own, but God said no, my plans for you are unknown.
God said “Demetrius, it’s time to take your rest”.
Don’t worry, I’ll let your family know I only take the very best.
Much Love…. Until we meet again, Demetrius
