Denise Marcel Mayo, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, was born on July 25, 1966, in Akron, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin Brown Sr. and Eursie Mayo; her grandparents, Charles and Edna Mayo.
Following the death of Denise’s mother, her aunt Thelma took her in and nurtured her as she blossomed into a remarkable young woman. She graduated from John R. Buchtel High School and soon after relocating to Denver with her aunt Vern and uncle Ty, pursued studies in accounting and business at Denver Technical College. Denise then established a successful career as a retirement consultant, spanning over 25 years.
Denise was a devoted mother to her pride and joy, Dr. Deonna Maxfield and Dante Mayo. She always said their birth changed her life for the better, and they felt that in the love, faith and support she provided.
She shared a wonderful relationship with her cousins Kevin Preston, Kenny Preston, Roslyn William, Latonya Jordan and extended family in Aurora. Denise was surrounded by love with her honorary mother, Apostle Mary Braswell, and honorary sister Kisha Rodriguez. She took special joy in her faith and faithfully served in numerous roles within the Church of God in Christ and Abundant Grace Christian Center. Whether behind the scenes or in the forefront, she poured herself into her ministries, which always guided and strengthened her love for Jesus.
She is survived by a loving family who will carry on her legacy: her brother Tony Brown, her devoted daughter, Dr. Deonna Maxfield (Anthony), and her cherished son, Dante Mayo. She was also a proud and doting grandmother to Danika Mari Maxfield, Taelyn Demari Mayo, Isaiah Anthony Richard Maxfield, Julian James Maxfield. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Denise is remembered fondly by her extended family, including nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends who were like family to her.
To know Denise was to experience true generosity. She was the most loving, giving, and kind-hearted person, and her presence was a living testimony of grace, love, and strength. She leaves behind a legacy of faith and kindness that will continue to shine through her family and the countless lives she touched.
