Dessie Howell, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and great-great grandmother passed away peacefully on March 19th, 2026, at the age of 88. She was born on November 5, 1937, in Bladon Springs, Alabama, to Willie and Aquila Erving. Dessie was a beacon of love, faith, and resilience, whose passionate belief in Christ guided her through every moment of her life.
Dessie dedicated many years of her life to blue-collar work, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to hard work and perseverance. Her strong work ethic was a testament to her character, and she approached her responsibilities with dignity and determination. Above all, Dessie cherished the time spent with her family, instilling in them the same values she held dear.
She is survived by her four loving children, Patty, Anthony, Cloateal, and Rayshoun, who carry on her legacy of faith and love. Dessie is also survived by 18 grandchildren 31 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride. She often shared stories of her cherished childhood memories growing up with her cousins in Alabama, a time that remained dear to her heart throughout her life.
Dessie’s laughter, kindness, and unwavering faith will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. As we celebrate her life, we find comfort in knowing that she is now at rest, surrounded by the love of her Mother, Father and Middle son Michael Howell in heaven.
A memorial service will be held at Calhoun Funeral Home on March 30, 2026 at 10:00am, where family and friends are invited to come together to honor her remarkable life. In lieu of flowers please send them to the funeral home and donations can be made directly to Patty Howell.
