Dewey Adams Jr. was born September 4, 1944 in Sylacauga, Alabama to the late Dewey Adams Sr. and Sarah Knight. He was the eldest child of seven siblings; two brothers from Cleveland, Ohio, Kenneth Harris and Michael Harris (Bernadette); two sisters from Cleveland, Ohio, Opradilla Harris and Delia Harris; two sisters from Dayton, Ohio, LaGloria Sanders and Duiene Standfield (Christopher).
Dewey Adams Jr. attended East Highland High School in Sylacauga, Alabama before being drafted to the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After 3 years in the Army, Dewey returned home and shortly relocated to Cleveland, Ohio. Dewey had two sons, Dewayne Adams and Kevin Adams and a daughter, Kisha Sutherland.
Dewey started working for Ford Motor Company in Walton Hills, Ohio. He was an assembly worker and then quickly moved up to a Materials Handler. He retired after 42 years of service. During his time at Ford, he met and fell in love with Donna Cummings in 1979. After 13 years of dating, Dewey accepted Donna Cummings as his wife on October 16, 1992 in Cleveland, Ohio, along with her three children, Jaureen Williams, Randy Williams and Marcella Hall. They lived a long and blessed life as a blended family.
During his 42 years at Ford, he took up several past-time hobbies, such as softball, bowling and golf.
Dewey was an avid golfer and spent his summer at Highland Golf Club in Highland, Ohio. He was well-known at the 19th hole as a serious and funny golfer. Dewey took his golf skills throughout the city of Cleveland. He achieved his first hole-n-one during the Trent Jones Golf Tournament and placed first in two other tournaments during his time as a golfer. He loved to engage in small talk about his golfing handicap on and off the greens. At Ford he was known as the Tiger Woods of Cleveland.
When Dewey was not on the greens of Cleveland, he could be found playing cards at the Gateway in Bedford, Ohio. His favorite card games were spades and pinochle. He loved to share his holiday time playing cards with his family, where he believed he dominated the table. He was very serious about his card games and took great pride in slamming down his cards when he ran a Boston. As his health started to decline, he started to enjoy playing cards more often.
Bowling was another favorite of Dewey. As with all other sports he took this seriously and was well-known for his ability to “work the lanes.” Dewey would not walk away from a challenge and enjoyed talking smack and could bring the best out of his challengers. Dewey and his wife enjoyed bowling together. His biggest accomplishment during bowling was when he scored a perfect game of 300. He participated in yearly tournaments and boast every chance he could when he knew you like bowling.
As Dewey’s health declined, his favorite pastime changed; he spent more of his later years in front of the TV watching any western but Rawhide and Gun Smoke were at the top of the list.
During his fight with cancer, Dewey accepted Christ as his Savior. After 4 years of fighting, on Sunday, November 1, 2020, God released him from his pain and suffering and called him from his labor. It was time for him to rest.
