Dewey Cromartie III, son of Iris Cromartie and Dewey Cromartie Jr., was born on May 9, 1977. Dewey was a very bright child. At age three, he could recite the alphabet forward and backwards. From an early age, Dewey knew he valued family love, support, and connection. He spent much of his early years surrounded by cousins and being spoiled by his grandmothers. He has always been very protective and loving towards his mother. As a young boy, Dewey earned the nickname “Uncle Dewey”, from his Uncle James, a name perfectly fitting for the type of love and consideration he poured into not only his nieces and nephews, but everyone blessed to know him.
Dewey did not need much to experience joy. Simply talking about his hobbies and interests would light up his face in delight. He loved watching sports with his mom and sister. He was an avid Cavaliers, Guardians, and Browns fan. He enjoyed games and movies and knowing interesting trivia about his favorite topics. Dewey could play chess in his head. He loved listening to music and was a huge fan of Star Wars. He had many interests and enjoyed sharing his joy with his loved ones.
Dewey was a hardworking man, any job he took on, he took seriously. He was kind, considerate, and thoughtful and showed it through his actions. Whether it was a thoughtful, quirky gift for your birthday or Christmas, or just a random snack he saw at the store that he knew you would love. His love language of gift giving was a reflection of his parents. Dewey was a self-sacrificing man who always thought of others. His generous spirit touched more lives than he knew, and his presence will dearly be missed.
Dewey was a person who served from his heart, He faithfully helped to take care of his grandmother, which allowed her to stay at home with her family as long as possible. He dutifully, worked at CiCi’s pizza for over ten years, until their closing during the pandemic. He worked at Giant Eagle for almost three years. Regardless of how he felt, he made it into work no matter what. Even after a long shift, he would still concern himself with what he could bring home from the store to his family.
Dewey didn’t attend church often because of his work schedule, but he knew and loved the Lord. He tithed faithfully to a church he couldn’t regularly attend. He watched religious based videos and sermons. Dewey understood the Truth about the One True God (John 17:3) and knew Jesus Christ as his savior (John 3:16-18).
Dewey Cromartie III quietly departed this world on September 2, 2024 at Hillcrest Hospital in Cleveland, OH. After his death, he gave the gift of sight by donation of his corneas.
