Dicie Mae Bass entered this life on August 15, 1933, born to Willie Mae and Benjamin Price, both of whom preceded her into eternal rest.
She was educated in the Cleveland Public School System and later attended Cuyahoga Community College, where she excelled in culinary arts.
Dicie was baptized in 1959 at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church under the pastorship of Rev. R. L. Fuller. She later became a member of New Light Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorship of V. J. Weathersby, now Ramada Sales, where she attended faithfully until her health declined. She remained devoted to her daily Bible study and knelt nightly in prayer until she could no longer kneel—calling each of her grandchildren by name. A grandmother’s love.
In September of 1968, Dicie married William Bass. They shared 27 years of marriage until his passing in 1995. She was the loving mother of three children: William, Wayne, and Darlene. Both sons preceded her into eternal rest.
Dicie worked for the United States Postal Service from 1965 until her retirement in 1992—blessed, as she often said, to be retired longer than she worked. God is awesome, amen.
A true social butterfly, Dicie never met a stranger. She was caring, kind, compassionate, and generous to a fault. She was never one to bite her tongue spoke her mind, , with honesty and humor and loved her family immensely. She was, simply, a genuine soul.
She enjoyed traveling, with her favorite trip being to Germany, where she developed a love for photography. She also enjoyed baking, playing keno, crocheting, knitting, swimming, walking, and listening to her music while enjoying her favorite drinks. A firm believer in cleanliness, she kept her home spotless. She also gave generously of her time, volunteering at Murtis Taylor, Karamu House, CMHA, and Metro Health Hospital.
Dicie leaves to lovingly reminisce her life: her daughter Darlene (Michael Sr.); her sister Atline; her niece Kimberly (Larry); her grandchildren Alicia, Steven, Nicole, Wayne Jr., Wascia, Wayana, LaDon, Wauhn, Ebony, Wayne, Michael Jr., Mia, Tifani, and Michael Jr.; her great‑grandchildren; and relatives out of state.
Her legacy of love, strength, and generosity will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
GOD has spoken…. DICIE MAE BASS
