Dixie Mae Wilson (née Carruthers), 81, was called home to be with the Lord January 10, 2023. Her son, Christopher, and brother-in-law, Earl Kidd, provided her with loving comfort and support before she transitioned. She was born on July 22, 1941, to Detroy, and Gracie Carruthers and grew up in Akron, Ohio. After graduating from Akron South High School, she went on to attend Howard University in Washington D.C. At Howard, she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and graduated with a degree in Pharmacy. She settled in Topeka, Kansas where she was a loving wife, mother of two sons, pharmacist, and an active member of St. Marks A.M.E. Church. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, doing volunteer work, crocheting, and playing racquetball. During the 1970s, she proudly won the Women’s State Racquetball Championship Title. Dixie had a successful pharmacy career at Blaylock Drugs, and Dillons Pharmacy in Topeka. Before, during, and after retirement, she was dedicated to her church family serving as a trustee, stewardess, church treasurer, and in many other roles. Dixie will always be remembered for the peaceful and joyful way in which she lived her life. She put a smile on everyone’s face she came in contact with. She lived the fullest life one can live… a life full of love, dignity, respect, kindness and oneness with God. May she continue to shine brightly in His everlasting arms.
