Don C. Bowen made his peaceful transition March 21, 2025, with his loving wife, Sherry Bowen, and devoted son, Shawn Bowen, at his bedside. He went from being a laborer to reaping his rewards after celebrating his 90th birthday.
Don C. Bowen was born March 5, 1935, in Midway, Alabama to parents,
William and Carrie Bell Bowen. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Flora Bowen, parents, William and Carrie Bell Bowen, son, Cedric Earl Bowen, and granddaughter, Lakindra Bowen. He is also preceded in death by brothers, William Bowen, Kyra Bowen, David Bowen, O’Ree Bowen, James Bowen, Reverend O. B. Bowen, and John D. Bowen. Sisters, Myrtis Carter, Susie King, Dominion Bowen-Williams, Idean Crews, Carrie Bell Cummings, Clara M. Bowen-Simpson, and Robbie Stevenson.
Don was baptized at Mount Silla Baptist Church in Midway, Alabama where he confessed his faith in Christ at an early age. After he graduated from Comer Vocational High School, he moved to Haines City, Fla with his brother John D. Bowen. They later traveled to New York City to work. A year later, Don and John relocated to Akron, Ohio to be near their sisters Myrtis and Susie. Don met and married his first wife, Flora, in 1958, under the leadership of Rev. Hall at United Baptist Church. To this union, four children were born-Steven, Cedric, Shawn, and Sharon. Don retired from Senn Construction Co., Union labor of 894, of Akron, Ohio, with approximately 33 years of service.
Don’s and Flora’s Christian experience and love of the Lord led them to join United Baptist Church of Akron, Ohio. He loved gospel music and was an active member in the male gospel chorus at United Baptist Church. He sang with the “Gospel Wonders” of Akron, Ohio and other gospel groups along with his brother, John.
Don was a faithful church member, a faithful Trustee, and very reliable when making property decisions regarding the upkeep of United Baptist Church until his health declined.
Don and Sherry Wallace married in 2010.
Don was a family man who enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and building homes. He built homes in the Akron community for eight (8) years along with his brother, John, and son, Shawn. He enjoyed watching westerns, and spending time with family and friends in his backyard barbequing. He also enjoyed traveling with Sherry.
