“My concern is not whether God is on our side;
My greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.”
-Abraham Lincoln
Donald Orman Tynes, Sr. embodied the same philosophy. Much like the enumeration of
Spiritual gifts found in the book of Isaiah, he possessed: knowledge, wisdom and counsel, fortitude, and the fear of God. We will miss him dearly.
Donald passed away at his home on December 13. 2022. He was loved by many, especially his wife of 46 years, Mary Elizabeth (deceased), daughters Lisa Danielle (John), Renee Elizabeth, and son, Donald Orman Tynes Jr. (deceased). He was a loving grandfather to Ashley Elizabeth Mason, Jay Milton Mason, John Paul Kunzo III, and Faith Elizabeth Stegeman, as well as a great-grandfather to London Gianni Mason.
Donald was born January 4, 1937, in Warren, Ohio to Watson Lee and Hulean Bryant Tynes. He is survived by two brothers: George and Samuel, three sisters: Pocahontas (Robert) Lanier, Carol (George) Williams, and Norma Jean (Joe) Taylor. He was preceded in death by his sisters Gloria (Frank) Crenshaw, Delores Tynes, Virginia (Eddie) Patterson, and brother Clint (Claudia) Tynes.
Upon leaving home and beginning his journey, Donald worked multiple jobs before entering the United States Air Force in 1958. He was stationed at Beale Air Force Base in Northern California for the duration of service. After receiving an honorable discharge, he landed in Cleveland, Ohio. There he took a permanent position at the United States Postal Service, where his hard work, dedication and tenacity resulted in a 38-year career in upper management.
In 1962, Donald joined hands in matrimony with Mary Elizabeth; the fruitful union produced three children. Donald strived to provide the best for his growing family by working several part-time positions until reaching upper management status, including as driver for the Cleveland Heights Board of Education, retiring after ten years of service.
He was also a well-respected member of the community. Donald was a member of the Freemason Society, a trustee of Quinn Chapel A. M. E. Church, and a participant in the Men’s choir. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his yard, line dancing, and roller skating.
He ran the race set out for him, and is now resting in the arms of our loving Father…
Donald finished well!
