Don born to a farming family of 14 children with only a 10th grade formal education, earned his G.E.D., and HVAC certifications. He carved out a stellar career as a Manager with AT&T/Ohio Bell/Ameritech and in 1993 after 43 years of service he retired. He then took up a second career of buying, renovating, owning and renting housing.
The consummate Handyman, he worked on everything from houses, to lawn care tools, cars, trucks, and boats.
He loved sports and early on was an excellent lineman in football, and catcher in baseball. Later in life he was an accomplished boat captain, fisherman, bowler, and coach/teacher of these passions.
He loved to barbecue, and on the holidays hosted our family gatherings. As kids we loved his pancakes on Saturdays with thick syrup and crunchy bacon, and later in life he created the Friday special of fried fish and spaghetti.
He had a strong passion for family and worked tirelessly with his brothers to keep up the homestead and the family foundation on the Sewell property in Lexington, SC.
He will always be remembered for his unrelenting loyalty to family, the great times shared with him, and the dedication and generosity he demonstrated.
For Us – In Loving Memory:
Who he was and forever will be, the stories we remember you and me,
The memories created for us too many to recall, but his faith, courage, and passion for life lives on in us all.
May God Bless our Patriarch and his prodigy forever! In the name of Jesus we pray.
Until we meet again in Him – (1Thes 4:13-14) Rest Dad in dignity and His power.
Amen.
