One of Evangelist Scott’s favorite songs was When I’ve Gone the Last Mile of the Way. On Monday, August 17, 2020, Evangelist Doris Scott went the last mile of the way. She was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost under Bishop Raymond Robinson. She is now resting in the arms of Jesus.
On the other side welcoming her is her late husband, Willie L. Scott, Sr., a daughter, Loretta Lewis, parents, James and Bessie Mae McWaine, a sister, Eddie Mae Canty and other family members, cousins, and friends.
To cherish her life and legacy are her daughters Constance Heflin (Tony, deceased), Jacqueline Scott, Desiree` Reynolds (Calvin); son, Willie L. Scott, Jr. stepsons, Reverend Larry Scott (Flora) and Richard Gamble (Paulette); son-in-law, Lee Lewis; sisters-in-law; Eloise Parnell (Donald-deceased) and Barbara Ann Adams (Henry); grandchildren, Wesley, Alicia, Porcia, Allison, Brandon, Donteae, Danielle, Deidre, Kenneth, and Kelsi, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The entire Psalm was one of her favorites, particularly, Psalm 91 – He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty…and also Psalm 27:1 – The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
Her greatest joy was being a wife and mother. She modeled holiness in her everyday life. She taught her children saying, “holiness is a way of life.” She was a prayer warrior and was seen fasting and praying for days as she prepared meals for her family. Fasting and prayer were a consistent part of her life. She often knelt in prayer at the dining room chair crying out to God. She passed the mantle of prayer to her children telling them to “get right in the face of God.” The anointing and the spirit of discernment she carried were evident in her life. She has touched and prayed for many for salvation, deliverance, and healing. She worked diligently in the service of the Lord in many capacities – Ministry Team, Prayer Band, Ushering, and Prison Ministry.
After staying home to raise her children, she had a career that included working as an Office Manager at Mammouth Life Insurance Company, Montgomery Ward, O’Neil’s, and May Company. She was also the Business Administrator for many years at The First Apostolic Faith Church under Bishop Francis L. Smith, Suff. Bishop Samuel L. Hampton, Sr., and Pastor Samuel L. Hampton, II. Who knew in her later years she would become a sports enthusiast! She enjoyed watching LeBron James play with the Cleveland Cavaliers and LA Lakers. She looked forward to spending Sunday afternoon watching the Dallas Cowboys with Will, Jr. She was also a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers to Calvin’s, delight! She enjoyed sewing, home decorating, and entertaining.
Special thanks to Summa Homecare and Summa Hospice for their awesome attention and loving care for our Mother. She really appreciated not only the sincere care but also the relationship with each of you. Her family also appreciates your care of our Mother.
